Hobsonville Point Secondary

Ian Jukes
David Hood

Are both theorists that have influenced their thinking.

Personalising the experience of school is the change towards the future.

The paradigm of one is:
- One class
- One Hour
- One Subject
- One Teacher
- One set of activities
- One test

Assessment - prove your understanding - could this be done in different ways?

Learning is linkage between prior and post knowledge, and between subjects. The paradigm of one only allows links within one subject.

What:
Concepts
Skills
Content
Do students need in their foundation years?

"How can we allow students to follow passions without restricting them in the future?"
"What you must cover in these two terms" "Achievement Objectives" - Is this not based on content?

Hobsonville point have
2 40 minute blocks
2 teachers
2 classes of kids
Have they not just changed from the paradigm of 1 to the paradigm of 2?

The structure of their programmes are:
Launching their AO's
V
V
Hooking kids in
V
V
Where do you want to go?

Big concepts delivery
 - Can't go outside of the curriculum areas.

SPIN are the special interest model. Which curriculum area are you missing from your three modules? That's the one you have to do.

Big projects must link to a community partner somewhere and must have an authentic outcome.
Big groups of students are guided by the teacher for the community.

Maruie believes each project would get NCEA with excellence but he doesn't want to apply it to that because he doesn't want the NCEA tail to wag the dog.

    1. These are just my notes, I did write a reflection on it but I'm not sure where it is at the moment... I think Lex might have it. Need to get it back off him and upload it.
