Observation- Energise Conference Presentation
Friday April 27
Congratulations on being asked to present at the Energise conference on the Development of a kaupapa.
Your presentation was well prepared, and followed a logical sequence.Your presentation style was relaxed and casual, but showed you had real passion for what you were talking about.
I was impressed with how you coped with the compressed timeframe- you lost nearly 15 minutes with the late start but you adjusted accordingly without appearing stressed.
I was also very impressed with how you coped with the technology issues- your technology kept dropping off, but you just found ways and it and didn’t let it stress you.
I’ve seen presenters with much more experience not cope with situations like that so well done.
Jono- your absolute passion for and understanding of the work you are doing shone through. You were inspiring to listen to, and this was evident in the responses of the people listening to you, and the questions they readily asked you.
The only advice I could give you is to on the spot consider the reduced time you had and maybe shorten the introductory part of your presentation in order to spend more time on the gutsy stuff.
Presenting at conferences like this is a great development of your leadership skills and shows your willingness to contribute to the development of education-locally and nationally. I know you are passionate about getting the message out there of how education should, must and could change and being prepared to take the time to prepare presentations such as this, and take time out of your holidays to present it shows your commitment to this. Even though we can get frustrated at the progress being shown in other schools, we need to persevere with getting these messages out there. Your contribution to this conversation at national level is vital- you have the practical examples of how it is possible- not just the why but the how. This is what people need to hear.
